Background
The idea for this project stems from our love of food, and especially a restaurant called Seoul Taco. Seoul Taco is a Mexican and Korean fusion fast food restaurant that has become a staple for Washington University students. It started as a food truck, but has flourished in the past couple of years into a full-functioning and very popular restaurant on the loop. We are both Systems engineering majors with outside concentrations in Olin Business School. Emily has a second major in Economics and Strategy, while Brandon has a minor in Operations and Supply Chain Management. Upon graduation, Emily will be doing the Global Management Trainee program at Anheuser-Busch, and Brandon will be a Business Analyst with McKinsey and Co. Because of our interest in the business world, we wanted to combine our engineering backgrounds, love of food, and our interest in consulting. Thus, we will be putting an Operations Research spin on the project, but mostly be focusing on the business implications that our analysis alludes to. We wanted to take on a project that could actually have an impact for the Washington University community that other students would enjoy and appreciate. Seoul Taco is our favorite restaurant, so naturally the idea came to us while eating there.
Abstract
Seoul Taco is a small restaurant business that originated as a food truck in St. Louis, Missouri. It has now transformed into a rapidly growing fast casual restaurant to accompany their successful food truck, but they have not yet considered the massive potential benefits that implementing a delivery service could have on their bottom line. Through this project, we plan to determine the impact that a delivery service option would have for Seoul Taco and design this service based on the business’s unique needs and demands to provide the parameters for their optimal and tailored delivery plan. Through our intensive research and analysis, we have successfully defined these parameters and have created what we believe is the best plan for Seoul Taco to maximize their profit through delivery. Not only is it feasible, but also it is extremely profitable. This report details each step of the process from its conception, to data analysis, to our final product of an implementation plan.
